The beloved game, Dragalia Lost, has become lost to time
Dragalia Lost, a gacha game developed by Cygames, had to end
services on 29 November 2022. The game had to shut down due to many problems
and controversies.
In the game's early days, Dragalia Lost was region locked to
only 5 countries. 5 months later after its release, another 6 countries have
made the game available. This meant that players who want to play the game had
to use alternative methods to access the game. This in turn would make
information about the game through word of mouth less available.
Nintendo, the publisher for the game, has done very little
effort in advertising this new IP. One of which is during a crossover with
Nintendo's own gacha game, Fire Emblem Heroes. The event started on 26 April
2019 and ended on 14 May 2019. It offered players a chance to get crossover
characters and experience a new game mode. While Dragalia Lost has done plenty
in this crossover event, the opposite isn't true. In Fire Emblem Heroes, it
doesn't even have a crossover in its own game. Fire Emblem Heroes recognizes
the crossover but does nothing.
The most major controversy the game had, was against Colopl.
Nintendo sued Colopl because their game, Shironeko Project, used patents from
their console. Because of this lawsuit, Colopl have no other options but to
change the mechanics for their game. This in turn would upset players of
Shironeko Project and cause them to view Dragalia Lost in a bad light.
The previous director for the game, Hiroki Matsuura was
controversial for japanese players. He had made some negative remarks on the
gacha game, Fate Grand Order. Fate Grand Order is one of if not the most played
gacha games played by japanese players. In japan, many gacha players tend to be
protective of their game. This caused many japanese players to not view the
game in a good light, causing less players to not play the game.
For a gacha game, Dragalia Lost is quite generous. But many
believed that the game might have been too generous. The game does not give any
incentives for players who intend to spend their money on the game. Players who
spend money on these games are the key for the games to last for long periods
of time. Without these players, the game's lifespan would not last for a long
time.
For players who miss the game or are feeling nostalgic, they
could the game Silent Hope as it has a similar vibe. Silent hope is available
for Silent Hope is available on PC and Nintendo Switch.
